As summer closes and we move into fall, there are things you need to do in your home to prepare for the winter months. There are likely multiple things that you’re focused on, but there are three very big ones that are huge to remember in preparation for the chill. Read on for what you need to be doing!
Retire AC
This is huge for the end of summer because it will affect how next summer goes for you. About 7,400 house fires can be blamed on air conditioning, and by simply taking care of it at the end of summer, you save yourself a headache next June. Keep in mind that central air conditioners are designed to have a lifespan of about 15 to 20 years, so if your unit is older, you should be saving up to replace it next season. You’ll be able to save 30 to 50% of energy in your home by having a more efficient model.
Generator Repairs
Home generator repairs are often overlooked in preparation for winter due to bigger things like home furnace repair. However, these are equally important! If a huge winter storm knocks out your power, you’ll be glad you took the extra time to ensure that the generator was in working condition. Don’t overlook it!
Window Covers
This is a relatively small and cheap home update to prepare for a chill. Unless you’re planning on paying for home furnace installation after five years, you should invest in covers. This will prevent your furnace from having to work overtime all season to keep your house warm. This is especially important if you have an older home where a lot of heat escapes.
Have you done any of these so far? Did we miss anything that you would have added? We would love to hear your thoughts, comments, and/or concerns!
