Custom built homes are beautiful luxury homes that you can design from the ground up. But not everyone who builds beautiful luxury homes needs to design every detail, and plenty of people plan their out custom designed homes based on pre-made floor plans. Pre-made plans are great for builders of new custom homes who don’t want to spend too much on an architect or designer.
But how can you choose a design that’s right for you and your family?
One of the first factors you should consider is size. Some families are big and need a lot of room to spread out. Others will feel overwhelmed and a little lonely in beautiful luxury homes with massive square footage. Think about your family’s needs and preferences and figure out an approximate size that will accommodate all of you, as well as any guests that visit regularly. A major part of this decision is how many bathrooms and bedrooms you want, and where they’ll be positioned.
Once you have a size in mind, consider your own design preferences. Are you looking for something traditional or modern? Do you want separate rooms or an open floor plan? Consider the furniture you’re moving into the space and where it will go once the home is built. At this point it’s also important to consider what would help you function best in your home. Do you need wider hallways to accommodate a wheelchair, or a separate living area for a relative? all of these things can fit into your home design.
Now, consider the location where you’re building. Will you be able to create an outdoor space or patio? If you’re on a smaller plot of land, would a multi-level or split-level floor plan allow you to get the most out of your space? Often you can look at home designs in the area around your land to figure out what’s worked for your neighbors.
If none of the pre-made plans you’re looking at meet all your needs, it might be time to call an architect or home builder. They work with homeowners to modify existing plans or create new ones to make sure families live as comfortably as possible in their custom dream homes.
