- Your Front Door:Of the numerous cases of break-ins throughout the United States, one-third of those burglars entered the home through the front door. It is much easier for a burglar to break into your home if there is a window on the front door. When installing a door, a deadbolt is a good idea, but must be installed properly. In over 10% of homes, they were not and an improperly installed deadbolt installed during the door installation, which allows a burglar easy access into your home. Consider the frame of the door as well. If a burglar decides to kick in your door, be sure he is unable to by investing in a sturdy frame and long screws. After installing a door, it is also important to keep them locked at all times.

Garage door openers that attach to your visor or are otherwise left in your car have a potential to be stolen, giving a burglar a way into your house. Don’t leave your garage door open. Think about investing in additional security systems and don’t just leave it to commercial door locks to hold back intruders. Always be sure to double check that all doors and windows are locked.
